Great Wine Profile
We don't mess around with swill at
CellarThief...nope, only great wines at stellar prices. Here is another great find from the cellar...
2006 Fetish "The Watcher" Shiraz
The 2006
Fetish Winery "The Watcher" is our reminder to stay balanced during the holiday season. Don't worry if Jimmy's stocking is a little bit more full than Suzy's. Don't worry if you can't finish that whole Turkey leg your Aunt Mabel put on your plate. And, don't freak out and toss the guitar out the window if your nephew trounces you in
Guitar Hero. Nope, the holidays are about staying balanced and enjoying the moment. Great wines are about balance too and this Shiraz out of Australia is a great example.
Fetish Winery: 2006 "The Watcher" Shiraz
Wine Spectator - 91 points
WINE SPECTATOR: Supple, generous and deftly balanced to show plenty of ripe cherry and plum fruit, shaded with sweet spices. But there's not a lot of weight, and this finishes with elegance and restraint. Shiraz. Best from 2010 through 2020.
CELLARTHIEF TRANSLATION: It's got it all...yummy fruit, some tongue tingling spice, and enough tannin to let the wine roll along for many years. This is one to grab for now and then put a few in the cellar to please the palate for years to come!

Fetish Winery: Background
Celebrity winemaker...Check. Incredible fruit from the Barossa Valley...Check. Stunning wine packaging that'll make you proud to pop it out for any event big or small...Check. Fetish was founded by Celeb wine stud Rolf Binder with the aim of crafting dynamite wines that are a product of spending a lot of time in the vineyard. Each wine Binder makes is down right delicious with tons of character without sacrificing balance.
Founded in 2004, Rolf Binder's aim was to combine a high-quality wine, a prestigious appellation and a celebrity winemaker all wrapped up in cutting edge packaging. Well, we're glad Rolf had the idea and certainly would say that he has already achieved his aim. Rolf is making some great wines with grip and balance and a long life ahead of them. Each of his wines (he is up to making three now) can stand proud on the table for Monday evening left-overs all the way up to an Anniversary celebratory dinner at the swankiest restaurant in town.
Fetish Winery: Wines Made
Fetish makes a small collection of delicious vino including this Shiraz, a great Shiraz/Grenache Blend and an impossible-not-to-like Moscato
Fetish Winery: Food Pairing
The 2006 Fetish "The Watcher" Shiraz should be paired with balanced foods
that have flavor but aren't too rich. Some ideas for pairings include:
- Cheese: Sheep Milk Cheeses (Here Sheepy, Sheepy, Sheepy), British Farmhouse Cheddar
- Meat: BBQ Ribs, Smoked Turkey, Venison
- Seafood: Salmon or Seared Tuna (Put away the can opener - talking about the real deal here)
- Other Suggestions: Paella; Anything that glides on water and goes "Quack Quack
Fetish Winery: Wine Style.
This wine is considered "Rich & Jammy"!
This wine is in-between a Rich and Jammy one and a Big Bomber. Other wines like "The Watcher" are mouth-coating wines that you can just as easily cut with a fork as you can sip through a straw, these wines aim to please and will wow any crowd. The BBQ is rollin', the ribs are a-blazin' and the good times are hapenin'. These wines can be cut with a fork and, though aren't usually sweet, fill your mouth with ripe raspberries like it's the heat of the summer. These will please all types of folks - even the wine uber-geek in all of us.
Wine Australia. Other wine to try: Fetish "Playmates" and Chapel hill Shiraz
