About da' juice:

Cocktailing is fun and all but sometimes you just want a wine that doesn't destroy the food that your "aspiring chef buddy" slaved away on. Well, we hope your buddy knows what he is doing because this wine spotlights food in all of its glory (or shame) - it's fruity, does a breakdance on your tongue (head spin and all) and finishes with a nice little kiss. It's a drinker now so no need to wait to enjoy this one.

A great wine from New Zealand.

Great Wine Profile

We don't mess around with swill at CellarThief...nope, only great wines at stellar prices. Here is another great find from the cellar...

2006 Fetish Winery Playmates Shiraz

We've got a fetish (don't tell anybody - it'll be our little secret) - it's those dang wines from Fetish Winery - they are bold and delicious without being out of balance. This wine is like having blackberry jam with only the natural sugars giving it the oomph. It's got a long life ahead but is already ready for prime time.

Wine Spectator - 91 points
"Smooth, ripe and decadent. Not a big wine, but distinctive and focused on its smoky blackberry, cherry and charred meat flavors. It all lasts nicely against fine tannins. Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache. Drink now through 2016."

Matching Wine To Your Mood

Have you ever been beat up for saving somebody money?  Wouldn't that be weird?  Yep, I agree - but, here's a cheery New Years eve tale that almost left me black eyed.

Some years ago I was teaching a wine class about sparkling wines.  I started the class off with a tasting of 6 wines - all blind so nobody could have price impact their decision.  The only intro I gave was, "You are about to taste 6 sparkling wines that range in price from $6-$120.  All wines are the top of the line from their respective producers and are well rated.  All you need to do is choose your 3 favorites and write them down."  After tasting, I asked each person to go around and tell their favorites.  There was a general consensus on the 3 favorites and the greatest consensus was on the 3rd place wine.

The class was made up of nearly 20 people and nearly every one picked the same 3rd place wine. The only exception to that was two people who rated that wine their top choice.  One of those individuals was a self-confessed wine expert and had a bit of a prickly nature.  As I unveiled each wine, two of the three wines were big-timers from famous champagne houses.  But, as I unveiled the 3rd place bottle, I felt a stare so strong that it was burning a hole in my head.  As I looked around the room I saw the self-confessed wine expert looking at me as though he wanted to give me an upper cut.

After making the mistake of asking him, "what's wrong" I was met with a storm of angry words.  "How could you set me up" he said and then continued with, "I couldn't possibly like that wine!".  You see, his favorite wine and the third place wine from the group was the cheapest of the bunch.  It was a $6 bottle with a garish and obnoxious label and a brand name beaten up by bad grocery story sales fliers.

I took a deep breath and calmly said, "Drinking good wine is about drinking wine you like at whatever price.  I just saved you a lot of money so you should be thrilled."  Unfortunately, he didn't see it that way and remained cold the rest of the class.  After the class, he lingered and we had a long conversation.  In the end, I was finally able him to convince him of one thing...He was an avid and proud golfer but always drank cheap beer on the golf course but never off of it.  "There is not only a wine for every palate", I said, "There is also a wine for every mood."

I was able to save myself from a black eye that night.  But, I forever will remember a valuable lesson from that evening.  There is a wine for every mod and for every occasion.  Sometimes the moment calls for a vintage Champagne from a world-renown Champagne house.  But, there are times that you can get just as much or more pleasure from a simple and straight-forward sparkler.  This New Years, I hope you drink something perfect for your mood as you ring in all the possibilities of a new year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  HERE'S TO A 2010 FILLED WITH HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND GREAT WINES!

Making A Difference

Every week, 42,000 people die because they lack access to clean water. 90% of those people are kids under 5 years old. We are proud to offer great wines at stellar prices.  But, we also are excited to be able to make a difference through our efforts. Therefore, we have partnered with some wonderful people who are dedicating their lives to providing access to clean water for people worldwide.  For every bottle of wine you purchase, we donate water - it's as simple as that.  Further, we work closely with our wineries and suppliers to be able to donate additional water if we sell out of the wines we feature.  We call this additional water "the bounty".  So, please tell your friends about CellarThief so we can keep offering great wines at stellar prices and make a big impact in the process.  Thank you and Cheers!

The Bounty

Help us sell out and we'll make an even bigger difference together!

50 extra days of clean drinking water

We're a bunch of sell outs and we are proud of it...but, we're even more proud that selling out means make an even bigger difference. Almost 1 Billion people on the planet don't have clean drinking water - that's 1 in 8 people on the planet. Not having clean drinking water leads to terrible illness and death - in fact 42,000 people die every week from a lack of clean, safe water with 90% of those deaths being children 5 years old or younger. If you help us sell this wine out, the Bounty is awarded! We'll tag on another 50 days of clean water for every bottle of wine sold! That totals 5 months of clean water per bottle of wine - that can make a difference! Thanks for buying through CellarThief and let's go thieves - let's drink well and make a difference in the process!

Thanks - You're Darn Cool!
