Gone are the days of simplistic, carbon-copy wines. We’re over-the-moon excited for this delicious and layered Zin! A dynamic duo of heroic proportions crafted this glassful of easy to drink Zin that gladly shows off its Napa heritage. Our sourcing team couldn’t get enough, so we had to hide it from them so you could get some too.

Legendary winemaking: We can’t overstate the importance of pairing in wine. Pairing 25-years of classical winemaking skill with Napa Valley know-how and professorial brilliance seems like a damn fine match to us. The resulting wines are sophisticated, dynamic, and have the perfect tension between unctuous fruit and lifted spice.

Vintage: Just when it couldn’t get any better, it did! The near perfect vintage of 2013 eclipsed the praised 2012 Napa Vintage. Ideal weather, dry conditions, and long sunny summers combined with grower patience made for perfectly balanced fruit.“I prefer the quality [of 2013] to 2012,” said Aaron Pott to Wine Spectator. “The wines are more dense and rich and the tannins are more ripe. It is more of a bountiful ‘California’-style harvest with abundant richness and density.”

Napa Zin rising: Tackling Napa Zin is no easy feat. The iconic grape of Napa is legendary but Pott and Lagier wanted more. More dynamic, more sophisticated, more approachable, more personality. Fruit from Atlas Peak to the Valley’s gentle foothills brings forth the full beauty of Zin. Brimming with personality that shines through each glass of juicy blackberry, dried bay leaf, and delectable spice. It’s more than Napa Zin, it’s the rise of Napa Zin’s new classicism.

Plum, cherry, cranberry, cedar, dried porcini, caramel, honeycomb, soft supple core with a simple finish of cherry, strawberry, caramel and a slight bitterness.

Chester's Anvil is a collaboration among friends and neighbors — Aaron and Claire Pott of Pott Wine and Steve Lagier and Carole Meredith of Lagier Meredith Vineyard. The owners of Pott Wine and Lagier Meredith Vineyard joined their formidable winemaking forces under the Chester’s Anvil label. Aaron and Claire Pott bring a quarter century of classic winemaking (Bordeaux and Napa) to the cellar. Steve Lagier and Carole Meredith found their way from vins de garage hobbyist turned Robert Mondavi winemaker and viticulture and enology professor at UC Davis respectively.
Forged from long friendship and challenging Mount Veeder surroundings, Chester's Anvil is the result of fiery discussions over dinner, fueled by countless bottles of shared wine. We created Chester's Anvil as an excuse to work together to be able to offer wines beyond our usual purview. Complex and balanced wines, unpretentious and easy to drink. Wines of pleasure that aren't afraid to show you where they come from.

This wine is made for roast lamb, your most decadent barbeque feasts, and starry nights shared with friends around the glowing embers of fiery conversation and easy laughter.

Wine Reviews

Sourced from Atlas Peaks historic Mead Ranch vineyard and produced by Zinfandel royalty Carol Meredith Laiger with a little help from Aaron Pott showcase a fantastic site specific zinfandel. A bounty of apple blossom on the nose with scrub brush and manzanita, chewing tobacco with some spicy notes, deep red in color the wine suggests power and finesse, reminiscent of turley offering from this site. Big red fruit drive this mountain zin has layers of raspberry, blackberry, licorice, finishing with blueberry sage compte. Our tasting panel really enjoyed the granitic structured interplay with the thorn berry fruit core.
