Today's Wine Comments:

Micromanagement is not, generally, something to which anyone should aspire. Though when it comes to grape-obsessed vintner Michael Parmenter, with his farming and winemaking style that is pretty much the definition of micro everything, the results are absolutely aspirational.

Working with Atlas Peak fruit at his itty bitty estate approaching the summit of Atlas peak, Parmenter makes micro-production wines like no one else, and they tend to hang around our warehouse for micro-seconds, too. Of this 2012 RTW, from an awesome 96-point Parker vintage, the Wine Enthusiast writes: “Blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Syrah, RTW is somewhat classical in its black olive and dried herb, yet also rich and concentrated, with tannic bite and a taste of clove. It finishes like vanilla cola.” Drink this supple and full-bodied red blend with a range of foods or pour it during your summer party.

Reasons we love it:

  • VinRoc conceived of the RTW as a wine made just for family and friends. As often happens, it was so immediately appealing it soon became clear to proprietor and winemaker Michael Parmenter that a bit more just had to be made for the general public.
  • VinRoc’s 35-acre estate takes its name from the many massive rocks that dot the vineyards.
  • From the Wine Spectator: “Winemakers in Napa Valley were not only elated by the quality and quantity of the 2012 harvest, but a few see a level of excellence that supersedes past vintages, going back decades.” Robert Parker scored the 2012 vintage a highly unusual 96 points or “Excellent.”
  • Atlas Peak holds the distinction of being Napa’s highest elevation AVA. Most sites within the appellation sit well above the fog belt, which means near constant sun and intense, powerful fruit that is ripe without missing an ounce of elegance or balance.

Enticing aromatics of blue fruits and pomegranate with hints of savory characteristics. Medium-bodied and juicy, the blend shows off firm tannins, accented by ripe plum, cocoa and a seductive mouthfeel.

This juicy, supple red is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. It isn’t the last word on complexity, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Crushed flowers, tobacco and worn in leather are some of the notes that emerge on the finish. No need for aging.

VINROC derives its name from our rock strewn mountain vineyard, where the elevation provides the perfect climate; and our rock hewn wine cave, where the consistent temperature & humidity is ideal for storing and aging our wine.

It’s the quality and reputation of Napa Valley wine that inspire crowds of tourists to visit Napa Valley wineries dotting Highway 29, nestled between the Mayacamas mountain range to the west and the Vaca Range to the east.

Enjoy this intriguing blend with a pan roasted pork tenderloin served with garlic and thyme sweet potatoes and buttered green beans.

"Deep, dark red color, with an inky purple hue. A nose of ripe black fruit, integrated toasty oak notes and subtle clove spice aromatics. On the palate, bright in herb, cedar and cassis, with soft, integrated tannins. Concentrated, it maintains elegance despite the full-bodied luxuriousness, finishing in layered chocolate flavors that linger on and on." - WB 4/17
