Today's Wine Comments:

We have found one of the finest examples of Barbera d'Alba. Admiringly deep in color and complemented by low tannins and high acidity, this food-friendly profile cranks up the quality for one of our best value offerings. We believe more than our Tasting Panel will be impressed with Cantina Di Nebbiolo and their ability to pursue outstanding grapes from Piedmont’s most prestigious regions.

Reasons Why We Love It:

  • An Italian tradition. With more than 50 years since their first harvest, Cantina Di Nebbiolo has set the stage for producing the region’s classics, including this esteemed Barbera d’Alba Superiore. Hardy vines and consistent yields have made the varietal ideal for crafting their highly-treasured wines year after year.
  • The best of the vintage. 2014 brought a year’s worth of growing challenges, but much to our pleasure Barbera benefited from the season’s delayed sunshine and dry conditions that favored the late-ripening varietal.
  • Bold meets delicacy. Fans of Barbera d’Alba can attest to its strength and finesse. And our Tasting Panel found this wine an example of how it can be big, flavorful and with good structure, nearly comparable to a Barolo or Barbaresco.
  • Drink now. Drink later. Its fresh flavors make it a fortunate delight to drink now, but due to its high acidity we believe letting it age a few more years will give you ultimate benefit as the fruit, tannins and acidity continue to integrate.

Ruby red in color with purple highlights, grapey in aroma with floral (roses) and spicy notes from the aging in oak, full and balanced in flavor. A very versatile wine, its roundness and suppleness make it an excellent match with a full range of dishes.

Cantina del Nebbiolo is located in Vezza d'Alba, in the heart of the Roero, but also welcomes into its fabric of members grape growers in the Langhe. Roero and Langhe is a large area of hills and valleys, with a profound uniformity, accompanied by some environmental differences and cultural tradition that characterize the individual spaces.

They are a world of uninterrupted hills, the Langhe and Roero, a river goes through them - the Tanaro - which seems to randomly divide the areas. It is true that in the past this river ran to the north of this area and then they were almost touching. But now - after the geological changes that occurred about 250,000 years ago – the course of the river divides the areas precisely at the base of the hills between Langhe and Roero, emphasizing the soil diversity, environment, and structural shape.

Perfect for the traditional fried meats and vegetables and the pot-au-feu of Piedmont.

Wine Reviews

The 2014 Barbera from Cantina Del Nebbiolo is an example of just how good this category can be, complex, expressive and ready to enjoy.  Black cherry, blackberry, tobacco leaf, bramble and baking spice all blend nicely on the nose.  The palate is equally juicy and layered, with a dark berry acidity and  smooth tannin leading to the supple and dry finish.  Enjoy now through 2020. - DZ Jul 2017
