Bright and bold: we’re loving this rocky, mountain-grown Cab! Recently awarded 90pts (Wine Advocate), this excellent and easy-to-drink Cabernet hails from a high-elevation Mendoza vineyard.

The 2013 BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon, Mendoza is a highly-rated gem from winemaking legend Susana Balbo. Concentrated plum, cassis and currant notes display the wonderful ripeness combined with true varietal character that the grape is capable of in the Valle de Uco. A suggestion of fine herbs completes the picture, and the firm structure - a lovely tannic grip and bright acidity - make this classically formed Cab a real knockout.


Things to Know:

The 2013 BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are from Los Árboles in the Uco Valley, premium region for red wine within Mendoza (think Napa Valley’s top-flight ranking within northern California). Los Árboles is a rocky region, where the grapes ripen early and preserve their varietal character.

Winemaker Edgardo del Popolo, who is both viticulturalist and enologist for BenMarco, expresses the terroir of the site in the wines. Hand harvested, and made in 2nd use French oak (with 11 months in barrel), the high altitude Cabernet shines through.

Awarded 90 points in the Wine Advocate, this is a wine to drink now and until 2018 in accompaniment to dishes like grilled sirloin, slow-cooked boar ragu, or served with medium-strong cheeses.

BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon has beautiful deep red color with perfumed aromas of ripe black cherries, strawberries and roasted cocoa beans. This wine is full-bodied and incredibly lush for a young Cabernet. It explodes on the palate with red and black fruits, then shows baking spices on its way to a mouthwatering finish.

In 1999 Susana Balbo crafted a line of wines to showcase the ripe fruit expression of her sustainably-farmed Mendoza vineyards. The philosophy is a simple one: grow great grapes and make wines that are true to their place. Minimal intervention during the growing season and through harvest allows the true fruit character to develop. Combine this with Susana's winemaking skills and the result is wines that express the powerful fruit flavors, the ripe tannins and the incredible length and balance that can only come from this one place: Mendoza.

Pairs with a wide range of foods including beef, sausages, spiced or grilled pork, veal, rabbit, medium-strong cheeses, and meat-based pasta sauces.

"The 2013 Benmarco Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced form Los Árboles in the Uco valley, at the limit of Tupungato and Tunuyán. There is riper fruit here, black cherries and blackberries plus good varietal character with herbal aromas and plenty of cracked black pepper. There is nice freshness, a lot less oak and higher acidity than in previous vintages. The tannins are fine and the wine is long and easy to drink. 36,000 bottles produced." -Wine Advocate 

This is a big and juicy wine with plenty of spice character on the nose, leading to a dry palate with ripe red and black fruit.  A fully loaded bottle with a creamy texture and stiff tannin all around a fresh dark berry acidity.  We agree with the great score from Wine Advocate and advise that you don’t miss this one.  Enjoy now through 2021. - DZ Nov 2015
