'Cellar Selection' & 91pts- Wine Enthusiast

This ode to all that makes Napa Valley great hails from the high slopes of Howell Mountain and is made by Rudy von Strasser who rightfully owns his hero status. With only 5 cases on hand, you’ll want to grab your bottles before they disappear!

Boutique Bounty. The siren call of perfection, she calls to you from on high. And she’s right, you really can have it all: grown from one of Napa’s most prestigious plots, made by the glorious hands of Rudy von Strasser, and the longevity of 2010 Cab in a bottle. But that siren, she’s a tease. We begged and bargained to get every bottle we could…and that’s only 5 cases.

High upon the Mtn. The cool vintage of 2010 turned out some brilliant wine. The Prim Howell Mtn property especially so. Gorgeous and pure, lavishly ripe thanks to extra hang time along the contours of hallowed Howell Mountain’s 1,683 feet of altitude, this bottle won our hearts and minds. Here the hustle and bustle of Napa’s valley floor feels far removed, and this Prim Cab from the rugged terrain left us speechless (no small feat).

von Strasser: synonymous with greatness in the cellar, in the bottle, and in your glass. Named a Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2014, Rudy von Strasser has run a tight ship since starting his namesake winery in 1990. His secret weapon: a toned and practiced palate that gives him insight into each vineyard’s wine potential year after year. Top that with meticulous winemaking and a style that is simultaneously magnificent and delicate and you’ve some very tasting wine.

This  Cabernet Sauvignon flavors impart brambly blackberry, espresso bean, toast and gravely minerality. Classic Howell Mountain, full bodied, well balanced with a lengthy finish.

*CellarThief maintain excellent cellaring conditions, and strives to sell every bottle in pristine condition. As is standard industry practice, any wine purchased over seven vintage years old, is sold "as is" and may not be returned for any reason.

“Wayne and Victoria Prim elevated their passion for wine and took it a step further in 2012 by merging their exceptional Howell Mountain harvest with the wine making mastery of Rudy von Strasser to create their first Pinot Noir. The 2013 vintage celebrates our second year of this Howell Mountain exclusive. Prim Family Vineyard has been delivering highly acclaimed and award winning wines since its inception in 2009. The culmination of Rudy von Strasser and the unsurpassed harvests from Howell Mountain deliver outstanding wines that stand out from the rest and provide the perfect addition to any serious wine collection.”

Pair with anything lamb and heaty slow-braised red meat stews.

Wine Reviews

"Similar in style and aging potential to the winery's 2009, and blended with amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot, this Cabernet Sauvignon from mighty Howell Mountain is rich in spicy blackberry and clove, the tannins soft and juicy."- Wine Enthusiast

"Von Strasser’s newest project comes from the appellation of Howell Mountain. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Prim Family Vineyards is composed of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec and 4% Merlot. It exhibits Howell Mountain’s classic graphite, black raspberry, black currant and forest floor characteristics. Well made, medium to full-bodied and rich with sweet tannins and a long finish, there are only 220 cases of this beauty that should drink well for 12-20 years."- Wine Advocate

This Mountain Top Cabernet is the real deal. Dark red in the glass, a nose of cocoa and crushed red plum, and blackberry, sweet vanilla. In tasting this wine the nature of its weight is the showcase. Big boisenberry and cassis fruit with chocolate notes. Soft fine grain tannin showcases the luxury wines sex apeal and power. Drink or hold. -WB 6/17
