'Excellent' & 93pt Vintage -Wine Enthusiast

Superstar vintner Jean-Claude Boisset’s 2015 version of Buena Vista’s historic Cabernet is a full-throttle rendition of the king of reds.

  • Recently named “Innovator of the Year,” Boisset’s purchase of Buena Vista in 2011 was the shot in the arm this venerable estate needed, and he quickly set to work renovating the cellar from top to bottom.
  • Combine the recent renovations with more than 150 years of classic Buena Vista winemaking, and you’re coming close to getting why we’re excited: this is one of the most supple and delicious reds Buena Vista has produced in decades, and it’s got a 93 point rating from Wine Enthusiast to boot.
  • It’s the quintessence of sensual Sonoma Cab, with ample Bing cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit coiled around an impressive degree of structure and tannin.
  • Established in 1857, Buena Vista holds the distinction of being California’s first premium winery.
  • The winery’s eccentric founder, Count Agoston Haraszthy, recognized the potential of Sonoma County’s bucolic hillsides and saw the need for wine to quench the growing thirsts of the thousands of folks arriving daily in search of fortune during the gold rush days of 1949.

You'll find fruit flavors such as blackberry and plum hit your palate. You might also notice the high tanins in the wine as well as various spices.

Before there were vineyards in every valley north of San Francisco, before Napa and Sonoma were household names, before there was a California wine world at all, there was Buena Vista.  Founded in 1857, Buena Vista is California’s first premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Today, the legend is being re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset. Just outside the town of Sonoma, the original winery is now a California Historic Landmark, and home to our Winery, Tasting Room, and Visitor’s Center.

Buena Vista. Our future is our past… our vivacious, colorful, and pioneering past!

Cabernet Sauvignon is right at home with rich, intense meat dishes—beef, lamb, and venison, in particular—where its opulent fruit and decisive tannins make an equal match to the dense protein of the meat. With a mature Cabernet, opt for tender, slow-cooked meat dishes.

Buena Vista Cab is Straight to the Point
When it comes to Sonoma County, Cab is only one among a slew of popular grapes. Nonetheless, it gets the job done. Buena Vista, being the longest-running premium winery of the area, holds nothing back. They know that people sometimes just want a value-driven sipper, and that's exactly what I'm presenting to you here.

Blackberry jam and toast on the nose. Raspberry, red currant and strawberry medley on the medium-bodied palate, with a creamy undertone and a hint of oak. Finishes with nice, bright fruits. A great pairing with your favorite pasta dishes. 91 Points - JZ May '18
