Life is unpredictable and you never know what is coming next. Don’t ever get too comfortable. Always be ready for change. A healthy mindset to not get knocked over with each wave of inevitable change. Napa Valley vintners might describe the 2010 vintage as schizophrenic. In the words of the great Robin Williams, Napa’s 2010 vintage was defined by “weather by Sybil.” Rainfall returned after three dry years, pushing flowering and fruit back at least two weeks at the onset of this challenging growing season. In a Darwin-esque “survival of the fittest” challenge, Mother Nature throws in a potentially crop devastating mildew and pest threat. Cooler summer temps teased growers with hopeful consistency, but never get too comfortable: Sudden triple-digit temperatures seared the valley as harvest approached. Skyrocketing temps finally gave way to cooler weather in September for a warm Indian Summer that was the cherry on top of this hodgepodge cake. Only the strong would survive this erratic and strenuous vintage, and the best would absolutely thrive. Emerging victorious, we give you the 2010 Grand Napa Proprietary Red Blend from Napa Valley.

This Bordeaux blend of 56% Sangiovese, 29% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Syrah is elegant, full-bodied and beautifully balanced and a deserving favorite of invino’s tasting panel. A little decanting brings this wine to life for an aromatic, elegant and delicious drinking experience. Bursting on to the scene are notes of blackberry, blueberry, red plum and blackcurrant. Dark fruit aromas extend to the palate with flavors of bold black cherry juice out in front, followed by blackberry, plum and grilled nectarine nuanced by toasty oak and dried herbs. Excellent structure with well-integrated tannins linger like velvet on the palate for a good, long finish. Immensely flavorful and luscious, this very approachable wine elevates dishes like seared lamb chops, beef stew and pasta bolognese, turning even that juicy, backyard burger into a fine dining experience.

From the Winemaker: Aromas of blackberry, black currant and plum meld with layers of cinnamon and vanilla when you first uncork this wine. Wait a minute and you’ll enjoy the soft hint of a Cuban cigar box. With a solid and pleasing core of Cabernet flavor, this wine comes across with rich fruit flavors of blackberry and full ripe raspberry. The plush texture gives way to the gentle undertones of vanilla leading to a long, satisfying finish.

Pair with grilled red meat, stuffed mushrooms, and dishes featuring blue cheese.

Wine Reviews

We’re very excited to present this boutique Napa blend to our customers.  This is a small production wine using grapes sourced from local vineyards.  Primarily Cab, this is a Bordeaux blend made in a surprisingly old world style.  Austere and elegant, the nose shows notes of red cherry, leather and baking spice.  The palate has a bright acidity, firm structure and fine grained tannins on the finish.  Drink now through 2020. - DZ
