Our Tasting Panel is all over this fruity, spicy and tasty Chianti. It’s a “truly exceptional” release from Fattoria di Rignana, the label that lives and breathes Chianti Classico. Staying true to a signature color, body and bouquet - plus the classic composite of 85% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo - this vintage shows off the unique characteristics that make Rignana Chianti so unwaveringly its own.

Hands down known for their quality and a rare find in the U.S., we are thrilled to have this vintage directly imported from the Tuscan countryside for our Members enjoyment. Both discerning palates and casual fans will take to this Italian delight. Very drinkable! Very typical Rignana!

Reasons why we love it
Italy may have nurtured a generations-old love affair with Sangiovese, but wine connoisseurs from around the world appreciate its historic success as a classic varietal that begs to be paired with our favorite cuisine. And Rignana risks no fate by creating a truly classic Chianti here. The addition of Canaiolo proves it as the varietal is said by many critics to be responsible for the success of Chianti wine. In this vintage it adds elegant aromas, herbaceous flavors, gentle tannins and an overall softness that shouts delicious Chianti blend!

This vintage is produced exclusively from only Rignana-grown grapes from vineyards that saw their second year as 100% organic in 2014. Owner-Winemaker Cosimo Gericke has always used sustainable methods out of more than just great respect for the land. It’s a respect for Chianti tradition, Cosimo’s main goal. Visitors to the property not only rave of the most fantastic wines, but of this man’s most accommodating nature. Truly a man of the land, the wine and the people.

A favorite villa. A favorite winemaker. A favorite Chianti Classico. And at a price that is easy to adore. We couldn’t be more excited extending this invitation our Members to enjoy this vintage that speaks so fluently to our most enjoyable evenings and gratifying gatherings.

Inside Fact:
The wine spends 12 months in oak barriques. 17,000 bottles are made. The wine is intense ruby red in colour, with aromas of red fruit and blueberries. The wine has deliciously soft tannins with a long finish. The wine truly reflects the terroir and vintage in which the grapes were grown. Match to fresh pasta or cold cuts.

Typical Rignana. Anyone who already knows Chianti Classico from the Fattoria di Rignana of the past few years knows the first time in the glass: this is Rignana! Fruity and spicy, this Chianti Classico 2014 presents itself. The fruit aromas are reminiscent of ripe cherries and plums, but also dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries. On the palate, this red wine is soft and harmonious, again very fruity, drinkable. Wonderfully to spend a nice evening with friends, or as a companion for a starter, which demands fruity red wines.

Harvest & Vinification

The Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes for this Chianti Classico from the Fattoria di Riganna were harvested from the 24th of September onwards, of course manual harvesting, in order to ensure a quality product in the end. Both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, whereby the alcoholic fermentation was carried out for 21 days at a controlled temperature of max. 27 ° C. For the purpose of the young Chianti Classico, Cosimo Gericke likes to use used oak barrels, barriques and tonne necks to keep the influence of the woods gentle.

Chianti is based on historical winemaking in Tuscany. The blend’s primary constituent is the dark-skinned Sangiovese, grown extensively in Tuscany and in a handful of places in the New World. What distinguishes Chianti from other wines is the addition of one or more of the Italian varieties: Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegioli, and Mammolo. Local wine laws in Chianti stipulate that at least 70% of each bottle must be comprised of Sangiovese, while in the more prestigious Chianti Classico DOCG, it must constitute 80%. Here, Canaiolo is used to soften the blend, while Sangiovese provides the bulk of the structure and fruit profile.

Rignana wines are produced using the vineyards’ grapes exclusively: Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Respect for the traditions of Chianti is the winemaker’s main goal, and his love of the land has prompted him to move his vineyards into organic farming, a transition that will finalize in 2013.

The Fattoria di Rignana in Panzano in Chianti is a wonderful spot. You can spend the best days of the year, either in the stylish rooms of the villa or the Fattoria. The pool invites you to rest and rest. The idyl of the typical landscape here in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, can be seen when lounging on the sun loungers. But Rignana is only a place for holidaymakers, but it also produces the typical red wines of the region, Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva. With the 2014 vintage, Cosimo Gericke's winery has also received its biocertification. Biologically sustainable has been cultivated for many years, but now with "Siegel". The pure Merlot, Il Riccio, completes the assortment picture, and the fruity fresh Rosato of Rignana again stretches the bow to the lounging by the pool.

Pairs to perfection with roast red meats, braised meats, ripened cheese.

Our panel was blown away by this Direct Import Chainti Classico from Fattorio Rignana, the 2014 is expressive, fresh and vibrant.  Black cherry and dark berries mix with dried herbs and leather on the nose, leading to a bright and lasting acidity on the well structured palate.  A delicious wine that can be enjoyed now through 2024+. - DZ Jan 2017
