Just Landed "Another Homerun!" &
"Boasting Remarkable Aging Potential"

Our Sourcing Team discovered this family-run operation in Tuscany a few vintages back at VinItaly, and in a short spell Bartoli Giusti has become our best-selling supplier of Brunello di Montalcino. These guys make an incredible, molto autentico example of this wine—Tuscany’s most aristocratic offering. And, thanks to our Direct Import, this Brunello is available for a pittance, considering the wine’s place of origin and the care going into each and every gorgeous bottle.

Bartoli Giusti sources their limited-production Brunello from meticulously selected plots of 100% Sangiovese. The family farms nine hectares of vines growing at 300 feet above sea level, within the Tenuta Comunali in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino zone. After aging the wine in Slavonian barrels for three years and an additional year in the bottle—a step necessary for tempering the naturally powerful tannins of Sangio grown in these historic hills—theirs is a wine displaying all of the exotic wonder of the appellation. We’re talking sweet black cherry fruit, fresh juicy acidity, sleek tannins and subtle hints of warming cedar, smoke, savory earth and a whiff of woodland flowers.

This is a winter red made for a truly special home-cooked meal. Its refinement calls for slow-roasted meats or a long-simmering Bolognese. For those Members who have hidden somewhere in their kitchen a manual press for fresh pasta—this is ample incentive for giving that bad boy a much-needed spin!

Reasons why we love it:

The Bartoli’s roots run deep in this zone. This family has been making wine in this hilltop village for four generations. Only in the last few years, and thanks to our Direct Import, has it been available to connoisseurs in the U.S.

In the production of this Brunello grapes are hand picked, and the fruit is macerated on the skins for 14-16 days to bring out the optimum flavor and aroma.

·    Historical documents uncovered during a recent renovation at this estate suggest that folks by the name of Bartoli made wine here as far back as the year 700.

·    The vines responsible for this delight are situated in a 3-hectare area at about 300 meters above sea level. The vast difference in daytime and nighttime temperatures in this zone account for some of this wine’s intensity.

·    Grapes are 100% hand picked and macerated over a period of 10-12 days to extract all of the fruit’s natural complexity and deliciousness.

This is a dry yet elegant wine with hints of vanilla, blackberry, and pepper.

From the winery:

For centuries the Bartoli Giusti family has been cultivating vines to produce one of the most famous and prestigious wines in the world, Brunello di Montalcino.

Ancient maps found during the renovation of the cellars testify to the company's activity already in the early eighteenth century.

The Bartoli Giusti Company is managed by the brothers   Gino Antonio Focacci , engineer, and Anna Maria Focacci , graduated in agriculture, specialized in oenology.

Uncork this with your next dish containing deer or venison. The game-like flavors in the meat will compliment the fruit and peppery flavors in the wine.

Wine Reviews

The 2013 Brunello from Bartoli Giusti, our favorite Tuscan producer, is showing very well at such a young age, but will clearly evolve in your cellar over the next 15-20 years.  Red berries and spice blend nicely with a firm structure and fresh acidity, leading to a lengthy and dry finish.  Enjoy now through 2030. - DZ Oct 2018
